How to Make Money From Your Hobby

How amazing is it that you found something you love to do?!

Now let’s turn it into an income source - hello abundance.

  1. You need to let people know about your hobby and that it is for sale. This can mean many things. Do you need a website? Do you need to create an Instagram account for it? Do you need a company name? The answer is maybe. To be honest it depends on how you want to make money. If you see it as a source of income you want to have for many years, then I suggest starting to set the foundations - brand name, its own social account, a website, etc. This will help you get in the mindset of having a business. If you just want to test the waters with this idea, you can share about it on your personal social media and open up an Etsy shop (or some way people can order. This could be through DMs).

  2. Price what you sell. This was where I struggled when I started selling flipped furniture. I thought I was making good money, but the reality was the opposite. When I was pricing my items I was basing it off of what others were selling their things for, not for what it actually cost. I needed to take into account the cost of the piece (if it wasn’t free), the time I spent refinishing it, and the paint and products used. Set a price that feels good to you and make sure you are covering your expenses as well.

  3. Show up over and over again. The hardest part about making money from your hobby is not having people show interest right away. That is completely normal! But it means you need to show up and talk about it often. Remind people you sell something and the value it provides. If you don’t talk about it often, people forget about it.

  4. Create a process. It can feel better to call in sales when you have a process in place. This can be a simple step-by-step of what needs to happen to take someone’s order or onboard them. This can look like sending them a form with questions for their order customization or processing payment. What needs to happen for you to work with this person and get paid?

Start promoting yourself and sales will come in.
